Kelly Marker has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master's of Science Degree in Counseling and is a licensed professional mental health counselor in Florida and South Dakota. She has 16 years of training and experience working with individuals struggling with anxiety, trauma, co-dependency, life transitions, stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue.
Kelly provides counseling services for individuals 18 years old through adulthood. While Kelly helps individual clients with their relationship issues, she is not a couples counselor.
Research has demonstrated that good rapport with your therapist is the most essential factor in successful therapy outcomes. The relationship between the client and counselor needs to feel comfortable, safe, and respectful. This needs to be someone with whom the client feels comfortable sharing personal and sacred information if they choose.
The purpose of counseling is to increase life satisfaction and contentment.
Deciding to see a counselor takes courage. It's the process of committing yourself to show up for appointments, looking closely at personal behavior patterns, thoughts, and emotions, and having the willingness to make changes to experience increased life satisfaction.
Kelly works only with individual clients ages 18 through adulthood. She specializes in helping clients struggling with anxiety, adult ADHD, trauma, codependency, stress, burnout, compassion fatigue, or life transitions.
The ideal counseling client knows something needs to change but is unsure what or how to do it. They have a willingness to examine their behaviors, thoughts, and emotions and a readiness to practice new skills between sessions,
Kelly sees the client as a whole human being with a vast potential for insight and change. Her counseling style is non-directive. Clients know what hurts and experiences need to be uncovered, what problems are crucial, and have the ability to find their unique answers. She skillfully guides clients through the discomfort of exploring their shadow side, making friends with it, and developing the skill to live authentically.
The initial session is typically 90 minutes long. Kelly has found this gives enough time to settle in, discuss any questions or concerns the client may have, gather big-picture information, discuss current issues, and develop counseling goals.
Subsequent sessions are 55-60 minutes long. Because life varies, the sessions' content, vibe, and emotion vary. Sometimes, there is a celebration for accomplishments, while other times, Kelly holds the space for the client to rage, grieve, or simply "verbally vomit." Most sessions are focused on moving toward the counseling goal, developing skills, working on thoughtful questions, and understanding self.
All sessions are telehealth video sessions, except for Walk-and-Talk Therapy.
Counseling goals are the roadmap for sessions. They provide direction and a method to measure outcomes.
After gathering big-picture information and learning the current issues, Kelly helps the client develop appropriate goals. This process may take one to two sessions while the client considers what they want to accomplish in their time with Kelly and how life will be different after successful completion.
During the session, Kelly will refer to the goals to ensure the conversations are on target. Because of the nature of counseling, goals occasionally need to change or be updated to more appropriately reflect the focus of what the client is presenting.
Formal goal reviews are done every six months at a minimum to measure progress.
Kelly utilizes a combination of emotional, cognitive, and behavioral therapies. These approaches include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Depth Psychology (Jungian)
Ecotherapy
Emotional Regulation
Mindfulness
Person-Centered
Positive Psychology
Socratic Dialogue
Strength-Based
Kelly's style of counseling is non-directive. She helps clients develop insight and awareness of their situation, leading to unique solutions and changes. Therapeutic techniques depend on the client's issues, learning type, personality, and emotional needs.
The counseling process may include exploring patterns, building skills, seeing new perspectives, celebrating accomplishments, and creating plans to continue success and happiness.
The length of time it takes to see results from counseling sessions with varies depending on the individual and the issues being addressed. Some clients may see improvements after just a few sessions, while others may require longer-term therapy.
Some indications therapy is being effective are symptoms are decreasing, increased insight and self-awareness, behaviors are changing, relationships are improving, goals are being met, daily life feels less chaotic, and an increase in overall life satisfaction.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) has instituted regulations to protect patients from surprise medical bills. Click here for additional information. https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises. The No Surprises Act protects patients with insurance through an employer, individual health plan or Health Insurance Marketplace from balance billing for designated services. Patients with no insurance will be provided with a good faith estimate.
South Dakota consumers who have questions regarding the No Surprises Act or believe they have received a surprise bill can contact the South Dakota Division of Insurance.
Florida consumers who have questions regarding the No Surprises Act or believe they have received a surprise bill can contact the Department of Health and Humans Services Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services by calling the No Surprises Helpdesk at 1-800-985-3059, or visiting http://www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers are required to give patients who do not have insurance, or who are not using insurance with an estimate how much it will cost for non-emergency medical items and services.
Kelly will provide private-pay clients with a Good Faith Estimate during the first session. This estimate is based on an agreed-upon monthly session frequency. The frequency of sessions may increase, decrease, or terminate as needed, changing the total estimated cost. The per-session fee will remain the same until advised otherwise in writing.
Clients must cancel sessions 24 hours in advance. If the cancelation is less than 24 hours, and the appointment can be rescheduled for the same week, there will not be a charge for the canceled appointment. This policy may be altered at Kelly’s discretion for extenuating circumstances (i.e., weather, illness, emergencies, etc.). If the appointment cannot be rescheduled for the same week:
a. there will be no charge for the first late canceled appointment
b. there will be a $100 charge for the second late canceled appointment
c. upon the third late canceled appointment, a full fee payment will be required before making a future appointment.
Missed Appointments (aka “No Show, No Call”)
Clients who fail to appear for their scheduled session without notification before the appointment will be charged $120.00 for each missed session. Suppose a client has recurring appointments or has scheduled several appointments in advance and fails to appear for a scheduled appointment. In that case, they must notify Kelly within 48 hours of their intention to keep future appointments. If the client has not notified Kelly, future appointments will be canceled. This policy may be altered at Kelly's discretion for extenuating circumstances (i.e., weather, illness, emergencies, etc.).
